The Computer Studies Department just finished a complete overhaul of our Web-related courses and certificates. Here is an overview of the changes:

SRJC Web Fundamentals Certificate, starting Fall 2014
Cutting edge, innovative, next-generation, user-friendly, responsive, mobile - these are all words used to describe the website of the future. At SRJC we train you to be a leader in this new frontier. 

Upon completion of this certificate program, students will be able to:
  • Understand and use HTML elements including links, images, tables, forms, spans and divs, as well as new HTML elements like section, article, nav, footer, and more.
  • Utilize Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control the look and placement of elements.
  • Utilize Javascript and the Document Object Model (DOM) to add and remove elements, create functions and events to respond to user input, and validate forms.
  • Define the purpose and features of different types of social media.
  • Create and maintain blogs and wikis.
  • Work collaboratively to develop goals, storylines, work schedules, and strategic briefs for clients. Create websites and multimedia content for clients.

In addition to the skills developed with the Web Fundamentals core courses, upon completion of this certificate program, students will also be able to:
  • Demonstrate competency in designing and creating a variety of graphic file types using professional image editing software
  • Identify, analyze, and apply current best practices principles of screen design.
  • Develop websites that features effective organization and navigation, appropriate use of color, attractive graphics, and legible content.
  • Identify, create, edit, and display different types of digital file formats.
  • Create a complete website that includes branding elements, animation, basic interactive games, and video content.

SRJC Interactive Multimedia Certificate, starting Fall 2014
Multimedia is a key aspect of websites, mobile devices, movies, education, entertainment, marketing, teleconferencing, publishing, and product demonstration. With the growing need to have powerful impact with the presentation of information, multimedia developers flourish in the marketplace. 

In addition to the skills developed with the Web Fundamentals core courses, upon completion of this certificate program, students will also be able to:
  • Apply appropriate user experience and interactive design concepts in using JavaScript, jQuery, and AJAX content.
  • Create video productions for deployment on the Web.
  • Author DVDs using professional DVD authoring software.
  • Design and create multimedia and animation content using industry-standard software.
  • Design, create, and deploy interactive and gaming experiences for the Web.

SRJC Web Programmer Certificate, starting Fall 2014
Do you ever wonder how websites like Amazon know what books you're looking for or how Netflix seems to know what movies you might like? The wizard behind the curtain is known as the Web programmer. At SRJC we train you to be a master of the back-end universe. 

In addition to the skills developed with the Web Fundamentals core courses, upon completion of this certificate program, students will also be able to:
  • Demonstrate a competency in Web development in the areas of coding, validation, user interface, and programming using PHP
  • Use basic database theory to design a relational SQL database, SQL tables, and create complex queries.
  • Execute basic UNIX commands, including those necessary for file and directory navigation, manipulation, and permissions.
  • Apply the skills of effective communication, time management, problem solving, and client management, to produce a data driven website.
